La Alainn i Roscomain

Peter on his throne / the stone style on the way into the mound called

Cruachan on the way into Tulsk, Co. Roscommon

This next picture below was taken at a memorial to Oglaigh na hEireann and Padraig Pearse on the way into Elphin, Co. Roscommon

The next pictures were taken in Elphin at the windmill, yes windmill:) 18th century restored windmill with matching mill house cottage.

Next stop is on the Arigna Mining Trail at the woodland walk to Lake Dereen, a really lovely walk with mostly beech woodlands with some ash, rowan and oak very very nice, riddled with deer trails. Cara got quite excited and needed watching

Same again

Boyle Abbey under restoration, sadly losing the light for this shot, but I'll get more, I love this Abbey

Side view of Boyle Abbey.

Convinced yet? Yes you do want to come to Roscommon for a little sightseeing :) All this within 20 miles of my house.

Peter and I spent an enjoyable few hours this afternoon history hunting with Ziggy and Cara.

We went out for a drive just looking for sites of historical interest to stop and check out, great fun I guess I'm really lucky to have such a history buff for a son, he LOVES it in school and out, reads Terry Deary 'Horrible History' books like other kids read comics :)
